Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive cognitive impairment most often striking those age 65 and older resulting from little-understood buildup of plaque in the brain and producing a steadily worsening dementia in those who suffer from it.

Divided into four stages – pre-, early, moderate and advanced dementia – this symptom of the disease is commonly associated with memory loss and disorientation. However, the dementia manifests in other ways as well, including irritability and loss of language skills. In its final stages, Alzheimer’s patients lose motor skills and muscle control.
